Hello!

Welcome to my submission for the second round of Game Dev Knock Out (GDKO) .

How to play?

  • Your goal is to find and gather 8 troublesome ducklings, and bring them back safe-and-sound to your nest.
  • Use the arrow keys or WASD to move and left mouse button to aim projectiles in your tail (hold for a better view) and interact with obstacles, pickups and enemies.
  • Once you have enabled your rocket, hold right mouse button to charge your dash. Release to execute it or it will execute once it is fully charged. Use it to bypass some obstacles or interact with other elements.
  • Touching beach balls or pool noodles, or dashing into rocks will send you back to the previous checkpoint. You can dash over some grass areas.

GDKO round 2 task.

The task for this round was to create a game with an engaging narrative. I tried to craft a meta-narrative where there are two stories being told at the same time; one is being read from a book and another one is between the characters reading the book. If I can continue this game I would like to add some additional social commentary about the struggles of single parents and how little kids from unconventional families have trobule fitting into society.

Additionally, the game includes animals (both rubber and non-rubber ducks) and aiming "projectiles".

Inspiration

The book is inspired by the classic book "Make way for Ducklings". The gameplay is an homage to Yohi's Island.
