Cutting back

I had so many ambitions and I still have so many ideas but I’m hitting some unexpected roadbumps and I need to start scaling back. The two main areas that will suffer are the visuals and the game world. I was planning on rasterizing images from the actual codices that are available in online libraries but that has been a challenge and there are some interesting images that I found that I can use (both CC0 and with attribution). For the world itself, I imagined this expansive map where the player could move around and choose what challenges to tackle in different areas. I spent a long time tweaking the NPCs and I found it fun to stay around and just compete with them on local dominance; and that took time from the design of other environmental hazards. I did accomplish a couple of minimums I really wanted to hit, like having a nice scoreboard and having decently challenging NPCs. This weekend I took a break and helped a couple friends on another short game jam instead. Check out our submission to LD: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/gweeble-garden
